Fanciful & Functional Forms
Port Washington, NY
Presenters to Include:
Fong Choo -The Teapot Form- Miniature vs. Utilitarian
For more than ten years Fong’s work has been focused on Miniature Teapots. The teapot form continues to challenge and fascinate him. His work is reflective of over a decade of evolution in color, design and form.
For this workshop he will focus on his signature miniature teapots, and explore the teapot form with reference to the perspective of proportions: from the large to the small and the whimsical to the utilitarian. Fong will share networking tips and discuss the pricing and presentation of his work which he feels has defined his success.
Additionally, there will be discussions with glazing through the use of the spray gun and brush layering to achieve the jewel tone and other effects. There will be a tool making and cane handle demonstrations also.
Gina Mars- Deconstructing the Coffee Mug & The Marketing of Pottery through Photography
Gina will explore the question...” When did coffee mugs become so essential to American culture? and illustrate how participants can make their own mugs to take home and experiment with what feels "good" in your hands
She will also demo and discuss the use of the light box for photographing ceramics. Lighting, digital cameras and how to remove those pesky shadows from the photos of your work will be discussed.
Veronica Casares Lee- Wmen of Serenity
Veronica will be building one of her signature female forms and glazing another bisqued piece to demonstrate her use of color and multimedia on the clay body.
